The Khasi Department in Shangpung College was established on the 23rd July 2007. The Department has an average number of students offering Khasi Honours, Khasi M.I.L, Khasi Elective in the three-year Degree Course.

Aims and Objective:

The Department aims at offering all our students a broad curriculum that provides stimulating activities to prepare them for the very best social and cultural life. Strengthening social identity and pride among the Khasi people through their language. Facilitating better communication within Khasi speaking communities and enhancing relationship among speakers.

The scope of Khasi as a subject in college is both culture and academic, offering various opportunities for students, particularly those interested in indigenous studies, language preservation and regime development. To promote the use of Khasi in education and daily life, especially among younger generations to prevent language loss.

Further Studies: Post Graduate and Research in Khasi.

Faculty Activities:

1. Shri E. B. Lytan participated in the Regional Webinar of Khasi Department of Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat which held on 17th September 2020 on the Topic “Ka shim kylliang Kyntien na ki ktien tnat ka ktien Khasi”

2. Shri E. B. Lytan attended and presented a paper on 29th October 2022 at a Regional Seminar as a resource person at St. Anthony’s College Extension, Byndihati Campus on the topic “U Khasi bad ka Khaii Pateng”.
