The department of English was established in 2007 with English as a compulsory subject offered to all other departments in the college.

Honours courses in English Literature have been offered since 2017, providing students with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge and expertise in the chosen field. The department also offers Alternative English and Elective English as part of the Three-Years-Graduate Programme, catering to diverse student needs and interests. Furthermore, under the FYUP - NEP 2020 Framework, the department provides courses in Communicative English, Communicative Skills, and Academic Writing Skills across various semesters, equipping students with essential skills for effective communication in both academic and professional settings. 

The department has made significant progress from its humble beginnings with the contributions of many faculty members, including Wailad Suiam, Deki Laloo, Phaibiang Phyllei, and others. Currently, the department consists of six faculty members.
