The Department was established in 2007 along with the inception of Shangpung College. The Department have four skilled and knowledgeable Asst. Professors aiming to educate and guide the students with a sound knowledge about History, Archaeology, Oral History & Ethno-History.

The vision of the Department is to become a pioneer in higher education and research. Its mission was to provide an understanding on the World History, Indian History, Regional History and Local History with an interdisciplinary approach in consonant with National Education Policy 2020. The Department also aimed to make the students well aware about preservation of culture and heritage.

Objective:

1. To achieve teaching and research excellence by organizing workshops/ seminars/ symposium/conference.

2. To imparts skilled education among students as per NEP 2020 to make them non-conventional historians.

3. To train the students to be enthusiastic about preservation of tribal culture and heritage by organising heritage walks, and visits to museums, archives and historical sites.

Prospect:

After graduation, the students can take up Masters in History and Archaeology, Researcher, Archivist, Writer, Archaeologist, Civil Service, Arts Administrators, Tourist Guide for Historical sites.
